D-Day for FLSA Minimum Wage Increase

Posted on July 24, 2007

Today (July 24) is D-Day for an increase in the federal minimum wage to $5.85.  The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 amended the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to increase the federal minimum wage in three steps:  to $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007; to $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008; and to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, which enforces the FLSA, has posted on its website updated compliance assistance.  Every employer subject to the FLSA minimum wage provisions must post a notice explaining the FLSA’s provisions.  A revised minimum wage poster, reflecting the increases, is available for downloading or may be ordered on the website.
