Recently, the ever-popular game show The Price is Right, was sued for sexual harassment by former working model, Lanisha Cole. According to news reports, Cole sued two producers of the show, citing that they sexually harassed and bullied her in front of other coworkers. She also stated that the producers wrongfully terminated her position after she refused to reciprocate their advances.
According to Time Magazine, Cole’s attorney said, “This case is about senior-level men in the entertainment industry exploiting power and control over women by bullying and harassing female talent.” He added, “Ms. Cole did nothing to provoke Richards and Sandler. Once the harassment began, she was powerless to stop it.”
The Price is Right has a history of sexual harassment lawsuits, most filed against former host, Bob Barker. I have a hard time believing the claims against Barker possessed merit, mostly due to my unhealthy admiration for the man. Many of these cases were either settled out of court or dropped by plaintiffs due to the stress of exhaustive media coverage, etc. Especially in the current economic environment, we have noticed an uptick in the number of employment lawsuits filed, and if Bob Barker is not immune to them, then no one is.
